The Midwest in the summertime gets HOT. Lately, it's been 90 degrees and sunny or pouring down rain, there's literally no in between. That means, we need our makeup, hair, outfit and everything else to stay in place. I thought I would share some of my current Summer favorites that I've been obsessing over lately!
Kylie Jenner Matte Lip Kits:
I've been searching everywhere for a good matte liquid lipstick that doesn't dry out my lips or feel chalky. I tried so many different kinds (even expensive name brands) and still wasn't satisfied. One day, while two of my friends and I were out wine tasting, they told me that Kylie Jenner Lip Kits were Buy One, Get One FREE. So obviously, my tipsy mind told me YES! I bought two matte lip kits in the colors Twenty and Candy K. All I can say is where have these been my whole life?! They last through ANYTHING, and aren't drying at all. They're even food and drink poof, and even kiss proof. The formula goes on so creamy and dries super quick, but doesn't leave your lips feeling like chalk! I'm so obsessed that I bought 7 more lip kits in different colors.
Recently, I've been trekking to the nail salon about every three weeks to get a fresh pedicure and a gel manicure. I usually don't get my nails done this often, but after discovering that gel manicures don't chip at all and last 3+ weeks, I was hooked. Gels are perfect for the Summer because they last through anything. Salt water, sand, sun, sunscreen, everything. It's kinda pricey to get a gel manicure, but you definitely get what you pay for. I've been sticking to bright Summer colors but I might opt for a nude color the next time I visit the salon!
*Dupes: Try Sally Hansen Gel polish - it looks and lasts just as well as a salon gel manicure!*
I watched a Youtube video a few weeks ago and saw this girl with orange eye shadow on. I loved everything about the look and had to get my hands on an eye shadow pallet with orange, Summery colors in it. I stopped by Ulta and picked up the Naked Petite Heat Eyeshadow Pallet. The first time I tried it on, I minimized the rest of my makeup to make my eyes stand out. I didn't put as much bronzer on as I usually do, and I opted for a nude lipstick rather than my usual bright and bold lip. After putting on the orange color (wild thing), I dusted a light layer of hot spell mixed with vibrate to tone down the color a little bit. Orange eyeshadow is perfect for Summer and gives you a careless, sun kissed look.
Redken Purple Shampoo
Since my hair is now a blonde balayage, I invested in the Redken Color Extend Blondage Shampoo to keep the blonde bright and rust-free. My hair stylist recommended this shampoo and told me I didn't have to buy the conditioner because it's not as purple. After I shampoo, I leave on the purple suds for 2-3 minutes and then I condition with the coconut water OGX line. After my first wash, I noticed my blonde hair was so much brighter and looked like I had just gotten it done at the salon. If you have blonde hair and want to maintain it throughout the Summer without having to get it done every other month, put your money towards a bottle of this shampoo.
Sun Bum Sunscreen
This stuff has me so obsessed!! It took me a long time to find a sunscreen that was of good enough quality that it wouldn't stain my clothes orange, or leave an orange residue on my skin. This stuff is a little more on the pricey side, but is definitely worth the buy! I usually buy spf 15 in the lotion and the spray, along with some of their lip balms. This Summer I've been using their coconut lip balm (spf 30) and it tastes amazing! *Pro Tip: Apply an spf 15 or higher onto your skin and layer with a tanning oil - you will still get tan! Make sure to always protect your skin from the sun rays*
